Whitney
Houston Lyrics
Whitney Houston has an amazing voice that has propelled her to
one of the few top divas in the world. Her amount of number one
hits speaks for itself with songs such as "Saving All My Love
for You", "Didn't We Almost Have it All", and her
most known ballad "I Will Always Love You." But this lady
can also rock it out as well as she has proved with the songs "I
Wanna Dance With Somebody", and "I'm Your Baby Tonight."
"Saving All My Love For You" is one of the hits off of
Houston's first album, Whitney Houston, and is a sad song
about a woman that is left by her lover so he can go be with his
family. This is stated at the beginning of the song when she sings,
"You've got your family and they need you there." The
song continues to speak of how she will wait for him although it
will be hard. She claims that her friends keep trying to tell her
to "find a man of (her) own" but that she will wait for
the one that she's meant to be with no matter how hard it is.
Her second album, Whitney, is a mixture of both upbeat tempos
and ballads. The album starts off with the song "I Wanna Dance
With Somebody." Although the song stills speaks of her loneliness
in the line "And when the night falls, the loneliness calls,"
she goes on to sing about how she just wants to dance with somebody
who loves her. She talks in the song about how she has been in love
before but it always ends and leaves her feelings hurt. The song
is all about making a connection with someone that is as basic as
being near them for a dance.
Her third album, I'm Your Baby Tonight, also starts off
with a fun upbeat song titled the same. In this song, Whitney has
found someone that she wants to be with and she spends the entire
song telling him that she is his for the taking. She starts the
song off by saying, "From the moment I saw you, I was out of
my mind," and continues to tell him that she will do anything
for him. She says in the chorus, "Whatever you want from me,
I'm giving you everything." The listener never knows if the
person she is singing to feels the same way however. The whole song
is spent with her trying to prove to him how much she wants him
but there is never any mention of the boy's reaction.
Whitney Houston's fourth album was The Bodyguard Soundtrack
and this album brought about a song that was probably her greatest
hit ever, "I Will Always Love You." The song is again
a very sad ballad in which she has to leave her lover otherwise
she "will only be in (his) way." She makes it clear in
the song that it will not be easy to go and she sings, "I'll
think of you, every step of the way."
In the chorus, she states very simply that she will always love
him. The second verse is perhaps the saddest when she sings, "We
both know, I'm not what you, you need." She goes on to the
third verse to wish him joy, happiness and love and hopes that "life
treats (him) kind." The song, also made famous by Dolly Parton,
definitely extends beyond the movie for which it was written and
will always be known to fans and critics alike as Whitney's best
known work.
