Eagles Lyrics
The Eagles are one of the most well known All-American classic
rock bands. There will always be people singing along to an Eagles
song when it comes on the radio, no matter how old the song is.
That is one of the greatest things about this band. Their music
will live on forever.
In 1972, The Eagles came out with their debut self-titled album.
This album featured one of their greatest hits, "Take It Easy".
The song is a nice easy-going song about just that - taking it easy.
The song starts off with playful lyrics about how the singer, Glenn
Frey, who co-wrote the song with Jackson Browne, knows seven different
women and they all want something different from him. "Four
that wanna own me, Two that wanna stone me, One says she's a friend
of mine," he sings.
Frey then goes on to sing about the whole purpose of the song.
"Take it easy, take it easy. Don't let the sound of your own
wheels drive you crazy." Perhaps this is why this song is one
of those great "car tunes" that are great for popping
into your car's stereo while taking a trip somewhere. Take It Easy
is a fun song to listen to when you feel that you really do need
to just relax and take it easy.
The next year, in 1973, The Eagles released another album that
once again, contained a hit that would be known forever. The album
was called Desperado and the song that was part of making
them so famous was also called "Desperado". This song
is not nearly as playful as "Take It Easy" and instead
speaks to someone who is extremely lonely and having a really hard
time with it.
The song speaks as a kind of warning that "Desperado"
must "come to (their) senses." The song also indicated
that Desperado only wants things he can't have and this is evident
in the lines, "Now it seems to me, some fine things have been
laid upon your table, But you only want the ones that you can't
get." While the listener starts off feeling sorry for Desperado,
by the end of the song, they feel as if Desperado has brought about
the situation on himself. And this is not to say that the listener
is completely insensitive to the situation. The song ends by declaring
that the situation is not as hopeless as it seems but that action
must be taken.
In 1976, The Eagles released Hotel California, which of
course, held another hit that would be known for all-time. The hit
was also called "Hotel California" and there have been
many different theories on the meaning behind the Hotel
California lyrics to this abstract song. Many believe that the
song is about heavy drug use with lines such as, "We are all
just prisoners here, of our own device." This seems to indicate
that the drug is the device and the individual is a prisoner to
it.
Others believe that the song is about Satanic worship. This theory
states that the song is about an abandoned Christian church that
was soon after used for devil worship. It's rumoured that this happened
in 1969 and that the line, "We haven't had that spirit here
since 1969," only further confirms this. In an interview with
the band, they stated the song is actually about a gang in California.
This is cleared up in the last line, "You can check out any
time you like, But you can never leave." Whatever one chooses
to believe about the lyrics of this song, it will always remain
a favorite among fans.
