Christmas
Music Lyrics
Christmas music lyrics or song lyrics come to the
forefront every holiday season. From the serious to the religious
to the secular to the silly, Christmas music lyrics brighten every
holiday season and are rarely heard past the beginning of the new
year.
Some of the songs sung around Christmas feature lyrics that are
religious in nature and put Christ to the forefront of Christmas.
Several "O" songs such as "O Holy Night," "O
Come All Ye Faithful" and "O Little Town of Bethlehem"
feature Christmas music lyrics concerned with faith and celebrating
the birth of Jesus Christ.
Then there are secular Christmas music lyrics that do not mention
any religious themes, but do mention wintertime and the holiday
season. Such Christmas music lyrics as "White Christmas,"
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Deck the Halls"
acknowledge the season without the reason for the season, so to
speak.
One specific genre of Christmas music lyrics is for Christmas carols.
Carols have a strong tune and verse and chorus for the singing group.
These types of Christmas music lyrics are paired up with some medieval
chord patterns that hail back to the days of the reformers such
as Martin Luther. Today's carols may be sung at religious services
or in the streets by a group of carolers. A song such as "Twelve
Days of Christmas" may be sung at either place, whereas "Jingle
Bells" would probably be sung in the streets.
But, not all Christmas music lyrics are reverent and serious. Some
are funny, humorous and downright silly. "The Chipmunk Song"
by Alvin and the Chipmunks is a perfect example of how Christmas
music lyrics can be over the top in silliness. Some other classic
examples of humorous Christmas music lyrics include "Grandma
Got Run Over By a Reindeer," "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa
Claus" and "Nuttin' for Christmas".
Since the holiday season is supposed to be one of joy and wonderment,
it is important to enjoy the full range of Christmas music lyrics
