A few weeks ago, I had talked about Spain’s lyric competition to give words to their wordless national anthem. Now, the official Spain National Anthem lyrics have been leaked and are open for public discussion and consumption.

The lyrics to the “Royal March” were written by an unemployed man, Paulino Cubero, who said he wanted to words to be non-controversial yet reflect love for the fatherland.

Against Paulino Cubero’s intent, there has already been an outpouring of controversy around the Spanish National Anthem lyrics ranging from too boring to too patriotic. Judge for yourself whether or not the Spain National Anthem lyrics indeed cut the mustard.
