Awfulsome Lyrics by Katy Perry
I didn’t come up with the phrase “awfulsome” though I wish I would have. The first time I heard this phrase was in New York Magazine describing some of the lyrics in Katy Perry’s new album “Teenage Dream”. The term “awfulsome” is supposed to be a mashup of “awful” and “awesome” at the same time.
After reading the lyrics, I agree or “agreefulsome” (which I did just make up) with the NY Times.
From the song “Firework” is the following lyric, “If you only knew what the future holds / After a hurricane comes a rainbow” which may be the poster child for sappy and silly writing.
Then from the song, “Peacock” is this disaster, “Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock? / Don’t be a chicken boy, stop acting like a bee-yotch.”
The song goes onto say, “I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock” which is both clever and nauseating at the same time.
I am self nominating this album for my list of worst music lyrics just on general principals. Teenage Dream is an extreme meme that doesn’t seem to have a theme and makes me scream for vanishing cream. Cya!
