Dan Fogelberg Singer and Songwriter Dies at 56
Dan Fogelberg has died of prostate cancer at the young age of 56-years-old. Known for his soft voice and powerful lyrics, Fogelberg’s songs touched many. Bringing in an era of soft rock in the 70’s and 80’s Dan Fogelberg wrote songs from the heart, for the heart.
His family was from Peoria, Illinois, about 10 miles from where Muse Dog used to chase rabbits and yip at passing cars. Fogelberg’s father was a bandleader at Peoria Woodruff High School and the subject of Dan’s song “Leader of the band.” Fogelberg may have had a touch of pianist envy as it is said his mother was an excellent piano player.
Be that as it may, Fogelberg had several platinum and multiplatinum hits from gold and platinum albums like Nether Lands and Captured Angel. His huge smash hit “Power of Gold” is still played by many radio stations today.
Dan Fogelberg’s last album, Full Circle was finished in 2003. But, the artist and musician was diagnosed with cancer early in 2004 and had to call off the tour for this album. Dan Fogelberg’s life has come full circle and now it is time to pay remembrance to one of the great singers and songwriters in recent times.
